Hey Seattle Zombies we did it, we broke the world record for the zombie walk! Officially can confirm 3,848 zombies signed the registrations, we were told we had close to well over 6,000 people. The next step is waiting for the approval of the Guinness World Records org. We had so much fun walking, playing and dancing with Seattle's creepiest and well dressed zombies.

Ryan and John of the Fremont outdoor Cinemas thank you for hosting this event, your hard work and efforts paid off. Zombies from many different corners of the pacific northwest came out for this event! Hats off to Anthony and the gang at night zero http://www.nightzero.com/ for their photo booth and excellent zombie makeup skills. The quality you bring to zombie events raises the bar everytime. Round of applause for Seattle Thrillers for leading the Thriller Dance and the amazing volunteer staff for making this a safe event. A huge "BRRAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNSSSS" chant to every single zombie who showed up to make this gathering epic!

We are excited once again to bring the zombie horde to Fremont, already the online responses have been huge and we can't wait to see everyone. We will have a bunch of new "rotting" faces joining us, so as a reminder to those who haven't done this before here are the basics to know.

* As mentioned previously - zombies are only really effective when traveling together in large groups. Bring your friends, foes, family and other loved ones.

*Check other sections of this LJ for makeup tips etc....

*TRY TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE EVENT!

Potentially useful things to keep in mind:
1. Participate at your own risk.
2. Do not pretend to “attack” people not part of Zombie Walk who do not obviously want to be involved.
3. Only swarm parked cars because, if we cause traffic problems, the Police will interfere.
4. There are no permits for this event. Be safe and look out for the safety of others!

Zombies walk at the Pride Parade

Show your zombie pride! We are in for joining the Pride Parade. Please don’t come as a zombie hunter because it will likely be misunderstood in context of a parade for love and understanding. Bring no weapons and talk up the July 3rd walk.

MOVIE FAN ALERT (SEATTLE): BREAKING NEWS!!! Reports of serious fun and screaming crowds dressed as Zombies appear to be infected by the “Fan Fare” epidemic is said to be widespread and viral taken over the streets of a small arts community in Seattle, known as Fremont.

Details are trickling in from our sources. We have been told that there have been reports of mass crowds attending the screening of Shaun of the Dead, to what appears to be a the world’s largest gathering of Zombies, people are encouraged to dress up to avoid being eaten by the Living Dead.

If you’re still alive, we repeat, if you’re still alive…we need your help to spread the word to everyone you know to ensure we break the record and bring it back to Seattle. Our reputation as a city is depending on your participation. We MUST prevail for the good of all Zombie fans out there.

This is pertinent to every living man, woman and child and for the reputation of Seattle.

Everyone must meet at the extraction zone located at 3501 Phinney Ave North, home to the Fremont Outdoor Movies on Friday, July 3rd and that everyone should report in costume dressed as ZOMBIES for this historical event to ensure that you are not detected by the Living Dead. Its your only means of survival and we are counting on you to make this possible. We need 5,000 people to break the record and we need them on Friday, July 3rd.

We are told that the infected “otherwise referred” as Zombies are hungry and want to watch the movie SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Scientist are telling us it’s the only way to kill the zombies. If you can not dress up, fear not, we will have a Survival Camp to dress you up to help you fit in with them.

Halloween Mahem this Fri....Are U Game?

There’s lots of stuff happening……For Zombies!

1st stop: Trollaween

Starts: The Fremont Troll
N 36th St, Seattle, WA
Directions: Under the Aurora Ave. Bridge -- sometimes called the George Washington Bridge -- at N. 36th Street.

Ends: Under The Fremont Bridge
The bridge that connects Fremont and 4th Avenues N. 30 feet over Seattle's Fremont Cut between Fremont and Queen Anne.

Trollaween is a 18 year (?) tradition of Halloween vaudvillesque community theater. It starts at dusk under the Aurora Bridge at the Troll and the second act parades on down to finale at the Fremont Bridge (which is the drawbridge by the canal). At this second stage the closing act is a live band playing Thriller. The coordinator of Trollaween asked me to wrangle zombies to shamble out of the crowd to perform the Thriller dance as the finale. We need dancers...Preferably people who know the dance somewhere in the hour between 8:30 and 9:30. Zombies and scary costumes welcome!

Twisted Flicks is a movie experience like no other. A classic, "B" movie is shown without its original soundtrack. All dialog, sound effects and music are improvised live by Jet City Improv group, based on suggestions from that night's audience. The show is fun, fast-paced, funny and suitable for all ages.

Then…
Everything goes awry when our Seattle ZW zombie horde invades. The directors of the theater invite Seattle's zombies to "invade" the lobby, and pour into the theater at the end of the movie, surprising the guests and staying for the Halloween party. This is FREE for zombies.

Zombie Party will start right around midnight.

4th Annual Seattle Zombie Walk 2008!

Yea yeah, we liked it in Fremont……but Zombie Walk has become a parade. Let's get the "invading small town America" scenario going. Where else has that feel than California Ave in West Seattle? Join us for chasing down some fresh meat for our rotting bodies…..

Here is the rough plan……

3:45 We gather at the back of the Rite Aid parking lot. The parking lot there is huge and there is lots of free residential parking all around that area.
Rite Aid
5217 California Ave SW West Seattle WA 98136
(just south of the Alaska junction)

(We recommend that you take the bus because we’ll be walking far from the car area anyways) Plus, the 55, 54, 21 and 22 buses go straight to the California Alaska junction. The 54 will drop zombies off directly at the Rite Aid on California.

4:00 The horde is assembled and moves along California towards Alaska. We detour to Jefferson square which would be great place to shop for "braaiiins" at the Safeway and maybe the hazmat suit guys want to come out again and attempt to keep the crowd “safe”. Then we shamble along to around the Junction of California and Alaska for more zombie hahem. Where is that zombie marching band? Anyone habe drums? Tuba? Then we trek up California to the Admiral Junction which is about a mile away. We pass a church where some ministers will surely be doing some zombie apocalypse preaching at us. (Ahem, Ministers?) We keep plodding along California and eventually end up at Admiral Way

6:30ish We arrive at the Admiral Junction. Once there, there's nearby dinner choices.... There's pizza (cheap option), Angelina's for Italian, and an Indian restaurant for dinner.

7:30ish 21+ zombie time.
Cocktails at 7:30pm to 8:30pm at Mission (2325 California Ave 98116)

8:30 Karaoke at Yen Wor from 8:30 until you’re zombied out.

After that, the buses that go downtown are 56, 57 and 55. 55 will also get you back to your car by Rite Aid every 1/2 hr.

A Worldwide Simultaneous Dance of Michael Jackson’s THRILLER
For World Record Attempt & Charity Fundraising in Seattle.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Thriller music video which was released on December 2, 1983 and directed by John Landis. On Oct 25th Seattle Zombies and Zombies from 80 groups in 15 countries will gather to perform the Thriller dance at the exact same moment.

The Thriller dance is fun and easy to learn. It takes an hour to become familiar with the individual steps and another hour to put them together into the routine. The Thrill The World website has free online videos that teach the dance and Seattle Thrillers is hosting weekly local rehearsals in Seattle and on the Eastside.
In addition to building community and having a great time, Seattle Thrillers is using the project as an opportunity to raise money for ROOTS (Rising out of the Shadows) which is a homeless shelter for teens and young adults in the University District of Seattle.

Revenant Magazine Zombie Film Festival

There are some great films lined up for this year. You can find more info and watch trailers at www.revenantfilmfest.com. We tried a Zombie Walk to this venue last year but had trouble with the sports fans at Husky Stadium. This year will still be a spectacle of shambling costume oriented zombie activity but focused close around the venue by the canal, field and surrounding brush and trees which is a fabulous setting to try filming our own little scenes, stage some gory photographs, performance art etc. This is also a great place to park/show off the tricked out hearses, ambulances and grizzly vehicles I know some of you have. Any ideas about how to encourage participation with zombie antics? Zombie valets? Zombie waiters? Anyone want to help make zombie hours'douvres? Please comment!

Seattle Zombies Pub Crawl for 2008!

This is officially the first zombie social of the season and a 21 and up outing. (Sorry kids) Zombies get up out of your resting place early and pull your outfit together because there is no cover before 9:30. Come dressed to kill EARLY, and get stamped so you can come and go as the night progresses without paying the regular $7.00 at the door. It's also a good time to bring out your zombie sketches and copies of short stories etc. to share with people who love that sh*t. Try out mixing with the living, then revel in the revolting nature of your own kind. Alcohol preserves rotting flesh so... "Bottoms up!. This is also a great opportunity to chat up the locals about the zombie film genre. There are quite a few zombie aficionados in our midst. There is a zombie Film festival the following Saturday and plenty of folks in the mob to chat with you about the unique indie films that will be screened at the second annual Revenant Zombie Film Festival.

What do you think of this role-playing Humans vs. Zombies game?

There is a new live action role-playing game called Humans vs.Zombies that can take weeks to play out. The article below has interesting commentary on what it means to wage a faux war as a mirror to the values in our society vs.imagination games and play. As more and more zombie hunters engage in Zombie Walk there could be a new dynamic. I personally am not into military planning and attacking guys who think they are commandos. Where is the balance?

Hi there my Un-dead Brethren,

It’s getting close to this year’s Zombie Walk and even closer to the date on which Zombies will take the opportunity to make a Public Service Announcement with Northwest Afternoon (KOMO 4) in costume at the station to be aired as a commercial. I have received a surprising amount of interest about this, but I’m afraid we still might be a few people short of our quota. Zombie Walk is required a minimum 15 people for Northwest Afternoon’s live studio audience in exchange for advertising time.

Zombies can take public transportation…

Seattle has a fairly adequate bus system and as driver's licenses expire along with the license holder, most zombies can't drive legally. And even if they could, they are notoriously slow in the reflex department. Even among the living, there are many who choose not to drive and so it might be a good future practice to encourage bus ridership in addition to providing driving and parking instructions. What to expect when you arrive:

8:45 am: Cleo Zombie will be at the coffee house closest to the station. Visit with her if you don’t want to go in alone….
9:00am: PSA Spokespeople (up to 8 people, who will be filmed on the PSA) sign in and go up to our studio.
9:05am: The remainder of your 15 person group will be checked in. Note: everyone does not need to be in costume. Please advise this part of your group that they will be checked in AFTER the costumed PSA spokespeople are checked in.
9:10am: PSA’s are shot in our studio.
9:20am: The rest of the audience (and the rest of your 15 person group) is brought up.
9:20-10:00am: Learn how to be great audience....Fun Contests (prizes anyone?)....and meet our fabulous hosts!
10:00am -10:50am: You and your group are a part of our lively studio audience.
**Your PSA will air later in the day when our show airs from 3-4pm. Your PSA will air once between 3:35 and 3:55pm.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Northwest Afternoon is located in the new Fisher Plaza next to the Space Needle. Fisher Plaza is located at 140 Fourth Avenue North in Seattle, just due South of the Space Needle. Our cross streets are Fourth Avenue North and Broad Street.
From I-5 North or South, take the Mercer Street/Seattle Center exit and follow the signs to Seattle Center. Turn left on Fifth Avenue and then make a right on John Street (you’ll notice yourself traveling parallel to the Monorail for a moment). Once on John Street, you'll see our underground parking lot in the basement of the new Fisher Plaza Building. Entrance is also right there on John Street.

PARKING

Parking is available in the Fisher Plaza parking garage located on the John St. side of the building. There is also parking available in area lots located on both the west and east side of the building. If parking in the Fisher Plaza garage, please be sure to take your parking stub with you and proceed to the public elevators. When exiting the elevators, take a right and proceed to the lobby in front of you.
The cost for parking in the Fisher Plaza parking garage is discounted for you as an audience member at Northwest Afternoon. When you leave the parking garage after the show, let them know you were with a group attending our show and they will discount your parking to $5.00.

Walk with your un-dead brethren through the streets of Seattle in the light of day. With all your gore and glory, let’s mob Fremont! Be one of us because you are a Horror movie fan, because you love cosplay, or just for the hell of it! How often do you get to participate in something this weird and free? All that is required is that you show up in costume, respect traffic laws and practice common sense. Bring your friends! Nothing says you love someone quite like caking yourself in make-up, limping down the street together and eating them by a big bronze of Lenin!

Potentially useful things to keep in mind:
1. Participate at your own risk.
2. Do not pretend to “attack” people not part of Zombie Walk who do not obviously want to be involved.
3. Only swarm parked cars because, if we cause traffic problems, the Police will interfere.
4. There are no permits for this event. Be safe and look out for the safety of others!

Sept 15th Zombie Film Festival in review

Thanks to all of you zombie lovers who came out to brave the Zombie Walk from Husky Stadium on Saturday. It was by far the toughest crowd to mingle into as a Zombie that I have ever experienced. Kudos to those of you who don’t give a fuck what others think of you and brave enough to stay in character! Thank you so much for dealing with the parking hassle and the crowds to join us.

About twenty brave undead brethren made the scene and more were at the Museum of History and Industry when we returned from our jock feast. There we were in our blood and rotting flesh amidst the massive tailgate party in Husky Stadium. One man asked me if I felt uncomfortable being so outnumbered. I told him: "Yea....but that’s just it about zombies ....every time we bite one of you, you join our team!" I am not a sports fan and did not expect to see that many people and tent canopies out there! Holy Shit! It was a sea of preppy purple jerseys, folding chairs, and tailgate parties. People did not know what to make of us. They thought we were Ohio State fans or protesting something. It was very challenging to remain in character. Ohhh the characters we were though! There were some "stumbling into camp" zombies, school girl zombies, afro zombies, zombie bums, Starbucks barista zombies, a zombies who brought a severed leg to snack on and a brave zombie hunter girl with a foam bat for protection. Despite the huffy Husky crowd we did our best. I actually had a mother come chew me out for scaring a little kid. I told her that "some kid's like to be scared" and I apologized for making that particular little boy cry. I was proud of my Zombie self for acquiring 1 exquisite Asian girl scream( my favorite kind), winning a stare down contest with a thick necked blonde-haired Frat boy, and sneaking up on people which resulted in four people throwing their beer cups up in the air. Arguuuuuhhhhh! We decided to clear out when I witnessed a particularly exuberant zombie have an old woman throw a beer can at his head for getting in her space.......Ouch! No fights with drunken frat boys for me or my kin, thank you.

Then we went to the Auditorium at MOHAI via the Montlake Bridge. Nice walk, some car shaking and squabbling over the severed leg…… At the Auditorium we took some classic pictures. I'd covered my car with gut-like material in advance to set the scene and laid out a mannequin I artfully enhanced for zombie flesh eating enjoyment. There were some great pictures of that! We also staged a classic "Night of the Living Dead" type photo shoot out in a field of long dead grass outside the Museum.

Zombies VS Football Fans...

So............ for Zombie Walk tomorrow we have a timing problem with the football game that lets out just as our zombie brethren begin ammassing in the Husky Stadium parking lot at 3:30 pm........

To make it all less of a hassle....
I suggest public transaportation or bicyles since traffic gets snarly that time of day after a game.

There is ample free parking by MOHAI (the Zombie Film Festival Venue). You may feel better if you park your cars there and take a nice stroll along the canal back over the Montlake bridge to meet the rest of the zombies at the climbing wall in the Stadium parking lot. There we can munch on the sports fans trying to get back into their vehicles.

We may not start the Walking part back to MOHAI until traffic chills out.....like at 4:20

Ahemmmmm, it feels like I'm just waking up from a Summer haze as Fall is approaching and the season for Zombiness creeps in. (I can't wait) October is coming and lots of folks in the Emerald City love to scare and be scared. I'd love to find as many of you as I can out there to play with this October. (even as Zombies go, my appetite is tremendous!) Yes, .......some people are already planning......Revenant Magazine is hosting a Zombie Film Festival this Sat. to rev up our scary season.

Pre-Film Festival Zombie Walk!
Arrive at the Climbing Wall in the Husky Stadium parking lot @ 3:30 sharp in zombie costume to participate. There will be a group of zombies milling about the lot getting ready to begin our frenzy at 4:00pm. Our horde will stagger out from the parking lot at 4:00pm move along the Montlake bridge, hang a left on Lake Washington Blvd and lt. on 24th to the Museum's auditorium.

There are lots of places in this livejournal to learn about the different causes of zombieness/ acting/ costume & makeup. Just come as a dead version of whatever you already are.....dig a hole and bury your costume now for that "fresh from the grave" look!

Stadium parking lot activities

1) Please help me decorate my black volvo station wagon to look as if there was a particularly gruesome zombie attack there. Bloody handprints on the windows etc.

2) Painting other cars with easy to clean fake blood and gore.
(Only if participants offer the opportunity)

3) milling and moaning

4) Zombies attacking people parking their cars ....

for the walk.....

1) Linger on both sides of the Montlake Bridge yelling Zombie Film Festival! Braaaiiiins etc...

2) Stick out your thumb and try to hitch a ride......

At McCurdy Park There are lots of spooky trees and brush in that park to jump out of and lurk around in!

1) The grassy area around the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) is where most of The flesh eating madness is to be contained.

2) Zombie games:
a) "Keep Away"-zombies throwing a brain like a football
b) "Zombie Fishing"- a fishing pole with meat on a hook to lure Zombies away from children

Zombie Gig @ Chop Suey April 14th

Another Zombie Gig is approaching and I’m inviting you to join the horde.

Basically, Tennessee Loveless (yes, that’s his real name) asked me to organize Zombies to attack his band at the TrannyShack show @ Chop Suey this coming Sat.- April 14th 2007.

Trannyshack has been named America's most extreme drag show. It has been in two independent films and has been touring internationally for quite some time now. The night will be PACKED, and there will be video of it that Tennessee will send out to anyone that participates.

If you are interested in looking over the run down of the entire performance, please message me. The actual Zombie part is really easy and mostly depends on costume and enthusiasm. We Zombies will be feasting to the song "skin receiver". Zombies will need to raise their fist in the air to the monster sounding "rah rah rah" in the song and to crawl up on stage to devour the party.. and then at the end to do another rah rah rah and then walk slowly and zombie like towards the audience.

Please get creative with your costume and bring foodstuffs that could look like gory body parts to use as props.

Some suggestions:
-Corn syrup, red food coloring, and a bit o Hershey’s syrup mixed together in a spray bottle makes great projectile blood
-red licorice ropes look like arteries
-cherry and strawberry Fruit Roll-ups are edible scabs
-slightly dried red jell-0 looks like meat

The only requirements are:
#1 You must be 21 yrs, or over
#2 dressed and ready to mill by 11:00
#3 You must dress and act as none other than a fabulous Zombie
#4 You must feel comfortable in a gay scene & love to devour a drag queen band on stage

It would be AWESOME and make for a much more entertaining performance if Zombies could show up for REHEARSAL at 2:00pm Sat afternoon @ Cop Suey. (You don't need to be in costume)

The U Village Walk Reports

The U Village Zombie Walk was very fun. Thank you very much to all the Zombies, "Victims" and photographers who walked, shuffled and screamed all through the U-Village with us. I was a bit alarmed at how many people actually turned out! All went pretty well considering y'all were a mob!

Zombie Alert

The University Village sent me papers from their Lawyer to my house Wednesday.
Zombie Walk is no longer a surprise to them and I was sure we would have to change our route.....

That's private property and corporate thinking for you......

The thing about zombies is that they never give up! I filled out their "We are not responsible" paperwork and pray Seattle Zombies have common sense.

I met with "Management" on Thurs. They are not thrilled that Zombies will be infesting their Village, and they hope it pours down rain on us.....but they did not say they would ask us to leave or give us trouble.

The head of U Village Security is a "Shaun of the Dead" fan. (Good for us, because we make his job a pain in the arse on Sat.)

The U-Village Manager, "Suzie" has a 8 year old who is afraid of Mickey Mouse. Errr..............
I explained what a Zombie was and described Zombie Walk as theatrical as opposed to violent.
She's definitely not a fan of "scary" but she and her co-workers were good sports nonetheless!

We're an R rated show at a G rated venue.

If we can resist eating the children, don't mess with people who don't want to play, leave no messes & thank the security people for helping out we should be in the clear.

I am looking for stuff that can be enjoyed in a nightclub setting by Horror genre fans in party mode. (Read as “I don’t want to be responsible for ‘priceless’ Art that gets accidentally damaged”.) We welcome PRINTS of fine art but no originals or sculpture. Glicee prints are quite affordable to make at http://www.thecolorgroup.com and Kinko’s works fine on a budget. If you would like to sell your art, I suggest aiming the price to sell affordably in the $10-$150 range. If you aren’t interested in selling, please mark your work NFS (not for sale). Any sales of artwork sold at the club will be split 60%- artist 40%- promoter.
