Hey Seattle Zombies our friends in Centralia are going for the world record, lets show our zombie support and let the rest of the world know Washington loves its zombies!

ZOMBIE EVENT THIS WEEKEND - 10/17/09 - 4-8pm

Hearse & Rad Rod Cruise and Zombie Tromp Costume Event Attempt to break the World Record for the Largest Gathering of Zombies in Centralia, WA!!!

Jupiter Arts Center & Gallery, a non-profit arts organization located on N. Tower Avenue in Historic Downtown Centralia in conjunction with the Fairway Shopping Center & KMNT is sponsoring the First Annual Hearse & Rat Rod Cruise and Zombie Tromp Costume Event that will take place this Saturday, rain or shine.

The procession of the Hearses & Rad Rods will meet in the new Timberland Bank parking lot in Chehalis at 4pm. The troop of cars will be led by by the Coffin Cruisers Hearse Club from Portland, Oregon and the Rain City Hease Club out of Seattle, Washington. Heases & Rat Rods from as early as 1910 will be a part of the parade of cars and show. The cars will begin their processional parade through downtown Chehalis, the Fairway Shopping Center and into Downtown Historic Centralia to cruise downtown. Following the cruise all the cars will be parked downtown for a "Show & Shine" Car Show along Tower Avenue. This is a rare opportunity to see Hearse cars up close and many of the Hearse owners will be bringing their best Halloween costumes & effects to add to the fun of this event. All Hease and Rad Rods are welcome to participate and can still sign up to be a part of the event by contacting the car coordinator at 360-220-2256.

In addition to the Hearse & Rad Rod Cruise, the Zombie Tromp Walk About will be taking place in Historic Downtown Centralia as the cars are on display. This will be the largest Halloween themed event to ever take place in Lewis County. An attempt is being made to break the world record for the most zombies gathered in one location. The current record stands at 4,026. ALL ages are welcome and every person dressed in zombie costume will count towards breaking the record. The official Zombie Tromp will start around 5pm as the zombie costume parade begins circling on Tower Avenue around the show & shine portion of the car show. For shutterbugs this will be a photo opportunity not to be missed.

All "zombies" must check in at the Jupiter Arts Center to be counted towards the record breaking attempt.

After the Zombie Tromp, zombies are welcome to attend the 101st Birthday Party Celebration at the McMenamen's Olympic Club featuring live music or catch a bite to eat at the Hub City Club where they are offering food & drink specials for the night.

Jupiter Arts Center opened its doors at the beginning of summer and is currently featuring the gallery's forth exhibition in honor of Halloween, "OtherWorlds." Redmond Thrill the World and Block Party Details

Hosts "Thrill The World" Zombie Block Party for Charity

The Redmond Zombies (www.RedmondZombies.com) and SecondStory Repertory Theatre (www.secondstoryrep.org) will host a "Thrill The World" Zombie Block Party to take place in Redmond Town Center on Saturday, Oct. 24, starting at 4pm.

Horror-themed street entertainment will be provided by members of the SecondStory Repertory Theatre, in conjunction with Redmond Town Center food outlets and businesses. The Party will culminate in a mass "Thriller" dance as part of the "Thrill The World" attempt to break the orld record for simultaneous dance. Groups worldwide will participate in this event on the weekend before Halloween.

The SecondStory Repertory Theatre will be providing improvisational street theater performances throughout the event, and a special rendition of the Rocky Horror Show's "Time Warp".

Uncle's Games will be hosting an exciting Zombie version of an elaborate scavenger/role playing game. The game, especially created for this event, will be played throughout the redmond town center. The game will involve teams competing to save their team heroes from falling victim to the Zombies.

After the "Thriller" dance, a Zombie Walk and Costume Competition will round off the event. Prizes for the competition have been donated by Redmond Town Center.

Special food offerings for Zombies (who reputedly like brains along with other body parts) will be available at many restaurants.

Registration

Members of the public who are over the age of 8 are welcome to attend and can register at www.RedmondZombies.com or www.MeetUp.com/SeattleThrillers. Registration is required to be recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records.

There is one last dance workshop held October 17th at 10am.

Worldwide Simultaneous Dance of Michael Jackson’s THRILLER World Record Attempt

Our Zombie Brothers and Sisters from Seattle thrillers who helped us with the world record and thriller dance are getting ready for a big dance on October 24th. They would love to have all zombies come and join them! Even if you were born with 2 left feet or carrying around a second left foot, they want to fill the streets with zombies.

The Game Plan

One more day before the feast begins and the seattle zombie horde takes the seattle center!
We hope that everyone is excited gathering last minute costume pieces, slapping fake blood on old clothing and other creepy crafting.

Here is a rough idea of what the walk will look like

1) We are going to meet around the space needle, more specifically around the grass field next to the EMP and at 3pm we will lead the mob towards the key arena.
*Zombie Idea*
For those who bring a few bucks in the amusement area. We hope to see rotting corpses moaning from carosals and playing skee ball. ;) This is your zombie experience, make the best of it!

2) A bulk of the mob will wrap around the key arena

Key arena is rather large zombies could filter in and around the key arena that would look pretty wicked.

3) *Zombie Idea*
We have some friends at the Metropolitan Market who would love to see zombies shuffling through, need a drink or some brains?

4) *Zombie Idea*
Zombies should be attacking from all sides! To get that affect we should seperate the zombie horde just before taking the fountain, there are three routes we can take.

5) Attack the fountain!
*Zombie Idea*
It would look amazing to get all the survivors and victims to run ahead of the zombie horde to the fountain. Then have the zombie horde first surround the fountain and swarm in for the attack.

6) Invade the Center House, have some fun and gather for one last scare. Have our closing announcements then guides will lead people to either the Zombie Rock Concert or Zombie Karaoke

Greetings Seattle Zombies!
Eric and Cleo Zombie here, keeping all our rotting friends up to date with the zombie basics. Even if you are crusty and have been zombie walking with us for the last 5 years or a newbie to zombie walks, we hope you will find this useful.

What is a Zombie Walk?

According to Wikipedia: A zombie walk (aka zombie mob, zombie march, zombie horde, zombie lurch, zombie shamble, zombie shuffle or zombie pub crawl) is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space (a series of taverns in the case of a zombie pub crawl).

Zombie walks are a lot of fun (to put it simply). We gather in a large horde and shuffle around together acting like zombies trying to disrupt the everyday lives of the living. Once everyone is in character it’s typical to see zombies trying to grab other fake body parts and fight over them while grunting and moaning loudly. They also stare and lurch slowly towards “spectators” then, when they least suspect it, jump or screech real close. We like to watch what happens when 10+ zombies cram in an elevator then lurch out and pretend to attack when the doors open. The possibilities are endless but once the whole horde gets going there is no other feeling like it.

Do’s and Dont’s: The safety talk

1. Do obey traffic laws. It’s un-zombie like but important for everyone’s safety and the law. This means walking when the light says so and stopping accordingly. Although it might be exciting to run out into the street and scare drivers to a screeching halt, don’t do it. (We don’t want to be responsible for car accidents!)

2. Don’t block traffic! Obstruction of traffic (especially Downtown) is the main reason the Police might interfere and make us disperse. We will be traveling in a very large group that will likely spill over the sidewalk. When that starts to happen, grab a few of your brethren and go to the other side of the street. Or… let the mob pass, feast on a victim, and then join the end of the mob!

3. Do not impede sales at any business on route. This means not bottle-necking entrances to retail shops. By all means stare hungrily at people inside of shops and restaurants, but please don’t leave bloody handprints on their windows!

4. Do find Zombie friendly businesses. If you know anyone along any of the Zombie walk routes, make some pre-arrangements so that we can give them extra attention.

5. Do not harass anyone who isn’t getting a kick out of the experience! Use common sense, if they are trying to avoid zombies or showing a unpleasant face don’t bother with them.

S a f e t y !

As a hungry Zombie, you are going to have to feed. You need living flesh, so other Zombies are not an option. You have two choices:

1. Hunt down by-standers and take your chances that someone, walking along, minding their business, is willing to let themselves be mauled. Try this procedure: Pick a target, ham up your approach, stand five feet in front of them licking your lips and wait until they show signs of wanting to play along. Do not just attack people! You might end up with a knuckle sandwich!

2. Find or bring a plain clothed healthy volunteer with a “Victim” name tag on! This is highly recommended. These “victims” will endure multiple Zombie “attacks” and will have their chalk lines drawn on the sidewalks of Seattle as evidence.

*Just be comfortable. Due to the irregular and jerky movements of the Zombie’s walk, you will find yourself very clumsy. Moving slowly and wearing stable shoes (like sneakers) should keep you limping along just fine! It also may get cold and wet outside. Be warm.

Long story short….. follow all regular laws of the City of Seattle and please maintain common sense. If you see anyone breaking the law and/or violating these very simple guidelines please address the issue immediately or ask for help. We want our walks to be fun for everyone including the tasty victims of Seattle!

Acting Zombie: School for the recently undead

1. Mastery of the blank gaze.
Relax all the muscles of your face and de-focus your eyes. Anyone who comes into eye contact with you should see no recognition or expression in your face. Make sure that your eyes "track" as little as possible. For a test, make your “Zombie Face” and have a friend surprise you with a loud noise. You pass if your eyes don’t dart to the noise and your body doesn’t flinch. Practice in the mirror making the “Zombie Face” and then try to do it with your friends without cracking up!

2. The Zombie Drive
A Zombie is essentially dead. In this state, you do not get itchy, adjust clothing, or speak coherently.

The driving force of a Zombie’s essence is hunger. The only active parts of Zombie mental faculties involve the need to feed. Zombies do everything they do to procure food, specifically human flesh. They are drawn toward the living to eat them. I hear brains are a particularly tasty delicacy.

3. Zombies in Public
While in public, avoid taking pictures while dressed as a Zombie. This would be a breech of character! Hand your camera off to a plain-clothed friend or “victim” to capture your most gory moments! Zombies don’t have/use cell phones. Zombies don’t talk or scream or shriek or howl – they moan or grunt.

During the event participants are encouraged to remain in character as zombies and to communicate only in a manner consistent with zombie behavior. This may include grunting, groaning and slurred, moaning calls for 'brains'. It should be noted that zombie behavior is a hot topic of debate.

4. Advanced Techniques
To heighten interest and realism, some zombie mobs will "eat" victims to create new zombies, in sight of onlookers. An effective way of doing this is to establish a route and plant a “victim” volunteer along the route ready to be “discovered” ny the mob shambling along. Surrounding the new victim to loudly feed, the Zombies conceal him or her from witnesses' view as they tear clothes and quickly apply greenish makeup and fake blood creating a new zombie who then shambles along with the ever-expanding pack to find new prey.

Zombie Costuming: Braaaaaiiiinstorming

Depending on perspective, but largely accepted- zombieness occurs after death. So when you are thinking of your costume try thinking about what you might be wearing at the time of your death.

In western societies dead people are usually buried in their Sunday best. A trip to the Salvation Army or Value Village for an old suit jacket and trousers or a "churched-up" dress are classic. Perhaps you died in bed and re-animated in your pajamas. You would certainly be comfortable. Those are merely suggestions. There are more zombie permutations in the world than the ol' garden-variety Night of the Living Dead kind. Variations like, "spare change" Zombie, Santa zombie, Cher zombie, and Laura Bush zombie are endless and we encourage everyone to be creative with their costumes!

scissor cuts are far too clean to look like it has been shredded, try using a cork screw and pull the clothing away from you as the cork screw’s tip shreads the clothing.

*tips for blood on clothes*
Fake blood can get sticky and after years of doing these walks we hate to get fake blood all over the interior of our cars. A really neat product to use is hot blood that can be found at A Masquerade in Bellevue WA. “Hot blood” is basically dark red glue sticks that you put through a hot glue gun and apply the bloody glue where you want the effects at.

2. Make-up
Another favorite costume shop is Display & Costume in Northgate. A trip there will be worth your while for makeup.

A. Get some whitening face paint or the stuff called "Zombie Flesh" by Mehron.

B. black grease paint to darken your eyes and cheeks for that hollow & hungry look and eyeliner to start with. Cheap, Rite Aid variety eyeshadows and eyeliners can also get you pretty banged up looking.

C. Oatmeal and liquid latex works wonders.

D. Food coloring and corn syrup makes convincing blood, but sticky. However, it is also tasty. You may want to try chocolate syrup or caramel sauce smeared strategically in your clothes....trust me......looks dead. Warning though, corn syrup also dissolves most prosthetics if you are using one.

E. Dont brush your hair! It looks great to tease out you hair if it is long. Sprinkle some leaves in it!

F. Don't forget to get yourself dirty! Tea and coffee stains on clothes age them well.

G. Get out there with yo bad self!

Non Zombie Ideas: Victims and Heroes, our favorite snacks

2. Victims: We love our Victims! You guys bring the atmospheres and help out the whole act. Wear a “Hello my name is” name tag that says “Eat Me”. Run, hide, scream and terrify other people who are not in the walk “HELP HELP ZOMBIES ARE EVERYWHERE THEY ATE MY NEIGHBOR! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!” Bring sidewalk chalk to draw chalk lines around fallen “victims” on the concrete to denote a murder scene. Run and trip a lot! Are you hardcore? If you are bring fake guts and blood to splatter on you as zombies attack you, even bring a quick makeup kit for later if you get killed and come join the zombies horde. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiYz_GxkqJg

3. Heroes: What’s a zombie movie without heroes? Show up with a good costume and try to help victims. Non-conventional weapons are the best, modify a golf club or walk around with bloody garden tools. Heroes please practice common sense, be around other zombies or costumers when walking around so people don’t think you are a crazed sniper! If you bring a fake plastic gun please make sure that the weapon looks fake, bright orange is a good indicator that it isn’t real. Be prepared that CleoZombie will eat you as her first course.

4. Silly: Hug a Zombie and see if their flesh comes off on you! Walk with a cardboard box with a sign on it that says “Lost Zombie Parts”. Volunteer to collect “Victims”. Organize a “Zombie pin-up” photo shoot after the Walk. But most importantly be creative in anything you do! A brain on a stick is always a classic.

Columbia Pictures has 75 tickets each of these three nights to anyone in our group who wants to dress up as zombies, FIRST COME FIRST SERVE YOU MUST SEND EMAIL. Its getting closer to our favorite season of the year and we have a wonderful surprise for you! After years of crawling around the fringes of Seattle we now aim deep at the heart of the emerald city herself. We have been given permission to have a Zombie Walk at the Seattle Center on October 10th 2009 at 3pm. We also have a rock concert at the Funhouse hosted by Bucephalus Games and a Zombie Karaoke lined up, more to come! This will be our biggest zombie invasion of the season. Remember the success of zombie walks are you! The numbers come from spreading the word… Thank you Seattle!

Hey Seattle Zombies we did it, we broke the world record for the zombie walk! Officially can confirm 3,848 zombies signed the registrations, we were told we had close to well over 6,000 people. The next step is waiting for the approval of the Guinness World Records org. We had so much fun walking, playing and dancing with Seattle's creepiest and well dressed zombies.

Ryan and John of the Fremont outdoor Cinemas thank you for hosting this event, your hard work and efforts paid off. Zombies from many different corners of the pacific northwest came out for this event! Hats off to Anthony and the gang at night zero http://www.nightzero.com/ for their photo booth and excellent zombie makeup skills. The quality you bring to zombie events raises the bar everytime. Round of applause for Seattle Thrillers for leading the Thriller Dance and the amazing volunteer staff for making this a safe event. A huge "BRRAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNSSSS" chant to every single zombie who showed up to make this gathering epic!

We are excited once again to bring the zombie horde to Fremont, already the online responses have been huge and we can't wait to see everyone. We will have a bunch of new "rotting" faces joining us, so as a reminder to those who haven't done this before here are the basics to know.

* As mentioned previously - zombies are only really effective when traveling together in large groups. Bring your friends, foes, family and other loved ones.

*TRY TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE EVENT!

Potentially useful things to keep in mind:
1. Participate at your own risk.
2. Do not pretend to “attack” people not part of Zombie Walk who do not obviously want to be involved.
3. Only swarm parked cars because, if we cause traffic problems, the Police will interfere.
4. There are no permits for this event. Be safe and look out for the safety of others!

Zombies walk at the Pride Parade

Show your zombie pride! We are in for joining the Pride Parade. Please don’t come as a zombie hunter because it will likely be misunderstood in context of a parade for love and understanding. Bring no weapons and talk up the July 3rd walk.

MOVIE FAN ALERT (SEATTLE): BREAKING NEWS!!! Reports of serious fun and screaming crowds dressed as Zombies appear to be infected by the “Fan Fare” epidemic is said to be widespread and viral taken over the streets of a small arts community in Seattle, known as Fremont.

Details are trickling in from our sources. We have been told that there have been reports of mass crowds attending the screening of Shaun of the Dead, to what appears to be a the world’s largest gathering of Zombies, people are encouraged to dress up to avoid being eaten by the Living Dead.

If you’re still alive, we repeat, if you’re still alive…we need your help to spread the word to everyone you know to ensure we break the record and bring it back to Seattle. Our reputation as a city is depending on your participation. We MUST prevail for the good of all Zombie fans out there.

This is pertinent to every living man, woman and child and for the reputation of Seattle.

Everyone must meet at the extraction zone located at 3501 Phinney Ave North, home to the Fremont Outdoor Movies on Friday, July 3rd and that everyone should report in costume dressed as ZOMBIES for this historical event to ensure that you are not detected by the Living Dead. There’s lots of stuff happening……For Zombies!

1st stop: Trollaween

Starts: The Fremont Troll
N 36th St, Seattle, WA
Directions: Under the Aurora Ave. Bridge -- sometimes called the George Washington Bridge -- at N. 36th Street.

Ends: Under The Fremont Bridge
The bridge that connects Fremont and 4th Avenues N. 30 feet over Seattle's Fremont Cut between Fremont and Queen Anne.

Trollaween is a 18 year (?) tradition of Halloween vaudvillesque community theater. It starts at dusk under the Aurora Bridge at the Troll and the second act parades on down to finale at the Fremont Bridge (which is the drawbridge by the canal). At this second stage the closing act is a live band playing Thriller. The coordinator of Trollaween asked me to wrangle zombies to shamble out of the crowd to perform the Thriller dance as the finale. We need dancers...Preferably people who know the dance somewhere in the hour between 8:30 and 9:30. Zombies and scary costumes welcome!

Yea yeah, we liked it in Fremont……but Zombie Walk has become a parade. Let's get the "invading small town America" scenario going. Where else has that feel than California Ave in West Seattle? Join us for chasing down some fresh meat for our rotting bodies…..

Here is the rough plan……

3:45 We gather at the back of the Rite Aid parking lot. The parking lot there is huge and there is lots of free residential parking all around that area.

5217 California Ave SW West Seattle WA 98136
(just south of the Alaska junction)

(We recommend that you take the bus because we’ll be walking far from the car area anyways) Plus, the 55, 54, 21 and 22 buses go straight to the California Alaska junction. The 54 will drop zombies off directly at the Rite Aid on California.

4:00 The horde is assembled and moves along California towards Alaska. We detour to Jefferson square which would be great place to shop for "braaiiins" at the Safeway and maybe the hazmat suit guys want to come out again and attempt to keep the crowd “safe”. Then we shamble along to around the Junction of California and Alaska for more zombie hahem. Where is that zombie marching band? Anyone habe drums? Tuba? Then we trek up California to the Admiral Junction which is about a mile away. We pass a church where some ministers will surely be doing some zombie apocalypse preaching at us. (Ahem, Ministers?) We keep plodding along California and eventually end up at Admiral Way

6:30ish We arrive at the Admiral Junction. Once there, there's nearby dinner choices.... There's pizza (cheap option), Angelina's for Italian, and an Indian restaurant for dinner.

7:30ish 21+ zombie time.
Cocktails at 7:30pm to 8:30pm at Mission (2325 California Ave 98116)

8:30 Karaoke at Yen Wor from 8:30 until you’re zombied out.

After that, the buses that go downtown are 56, 57 and 55. 55 will also get you back to your car by Rite Aid every 1/2 hr.

For World Record Attempt & Charity Fundraising in Seattle.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson's Thriller music video which was released on December 2, 1983 and directed by John Landis. On Oct 25th Seattle Zombies and Zombies from 80 groups in 15 countries will gather to perform the Thriller dance at the exact same moment.

The Thriller dance is fun and easy to learn. It takes an hour to become familiar with the individual steps and another hour to put them together into the routine. The Thrill The World website has free online videos that teach the dance and Seattle Thrillers is hosting weekly local rehearsals in Seattle and on the Eastside.
In addition to building community and having a great time, Seattle Thrillers is using the project as an opportunity to raise money for ROOTS (Rising out of the Shadows) which is a homeless shelter for teens and young adults in the University District of Seattle.

There are some great films lined up for this year. You can find more info and watch trailers at www.revenantfilmfest.com. We tried a Zombie Walk to this venue last year but had trouble with the sports fans at Husky Stadium. This year will still be a spectacle of shambling costume oriented zombie activity but focused close around the venue by the canal, field and surrounding brush and trees which is a fabulous setting to try filming our own little scenes, stage some gory photographs, performance art etc. This is also a great place to park/show off the tricked out hearses, ambulances and grizzly vehicles I know some of you have. Any ideas about how to encourage participation with zombie antics? Zombie valets? Zombie waiters? Anyone want to help make zombie hours'douvres? Please comment!

Synopsis
It seems like a night just like any other, but just when Barbara and Johnny thought running out of candy was their biggest problem, a whole new headache rises. That’s right—Zombies!

A funny, scary, campy classic especially for teens—or older. Just like the movie, but live, or rather dead, right there in front of you.

Seattle Zombies Pub Crawl for 2008!

Sat nite Zombie Pub Crawl
Staring at The Ballroom- 456 N 36th St. Seattle, WA, 98103

This is officially the first zombie social of the season and a 21 and up outing. (Sorry kids) Zombies get up out of your resting place early and pull your outfit together because there is no cover before 9:30. Come dressed to kill EARLY, and get stamped so you can come and go as the night progresses without paying the regular $7.00 at the door. It's also a good time to bring out your zombie sketches and copies of short stories etc. to share with people who love that sh*t. Try out mixing with the living, then revel in the revolting nature of your own kind. Alcohol preserves rotting flesh so... "Bottoms up!. This is also a great opportunity to chat up the locals about the zombie film genre. There are quite a few zombie aficionados in our midst. There is a zombie Film festival the following Saturday and plenty of folks in the mob to chat with you about the unique indie films that will be screened at the second annual Revenant Zombie Film Festival.
