Hey Seattle Zombies we did it, we broke the world record for the zombie walk! Officially can confirm 3,848 zombies signed the registrations, we were told we had close to well over 6,000 people. The next step is waiting for the approval of the Guinness World Records org. We had so much fun walking, playing and dancing with Seattle's creepiest and well dressed zombies.

Ryan and John of the Fremont outdoor Cinemas thank you for hosting this event, your hard work and efforts paid off. Zombies from many different corners of the pacific northwest came out for this event! Hats off to Anthony and the gang at night zero http://www.nightzero.com/ for their photo booth and excellent zombie makeup skills. The quality you bring to zombie events raises the bar everytime. Round of applause for Seattle Thrillers for leading the Thriller Dance and the amazing volunteer staff for making this a safe event. A huge "BRRAAAAAAAIIIIINNNNSSSS" chant to every single zombie who showed up to make this gathering epic!

Here are some news articles, videos and photos. Post more if you find them!

I posted pics on the above site.....

I had a few comments about this year's Zombie Walk.... not sure where to post them?

It was pretty thrilling to see soooo many people dressed up as zombies all converging in one place at one time!! There was one instant where I actually felt creeped out being surrounded by so many zombies!! How cool is that! :)

However, we didn't really walk! I was there from 6-10 and there wasn't really a walk. I hope next year the event takes place where we can actually walk as a group- I really wanted to get footage of zombies staggering thru the streets, approaching non-zombies or cars, etc. and nothing like that happened this year that I could see. :( Also, if so much time will be spent in line, perhaps the musicians could be playing during the day, while people are in line, so we can be entertained! And then after the registration, we could walk before things like dances, fashion shows and movies are shown. By 10 pm it was pretty dark so walking at that point would not have been as camera friendly anyway. Also, the volunteers should perhaps be trained a bit better- each one we approached had a different answer re: whether we could walk w/ the zombies and photograph them w/o registering. We initially assumed we could walk without registering since we initially were not dressed up. However, before we could enter the "compound" we were stopped and asked if we knew what was happening and then firmly told we had to get in line to register even if we just wanted to take pictures. After seeing how long the line was, we asked another person who told us to just take pictures in line. After waiting in line for awhile, we asked another person who said we didn't have to register. By then we were near someone w/ a clipboard so we signed it only to be told that we shouldn't sign it until we were dressed as zombies. So we got a different answer each time basically. In the end, we signed it AND dressed as zombies, so it all worked out. But meanwhile, we missed out on some photographs and as I said we didn't see any zombies actually "walking" other than to get in and out of line.

I don't want it to sound as if I'm just bitching- we had a blast and it was such a cool event! I am tickled pink that such an event exists and proudly donated $$ to the donation bin on site for it to help support it again next year! And I wanted to say a huge thank you to the folks at Night Zero for working their butts off, as well as to all the other organizers and volunteers for this event!

I just am hoping a few things can be tweaked for next year's event.....

Hi Rita,

Thanks for writing in. Yes, EricZombie and I led two walks....one at 7:30 or so and one at about 8:00pm. I had a megaphone and was making announcements. Sorry you missed us.

I had no intention of spear heading our regular zombie antics with thousands of people following us...especially with people like you who aren't prepared to participate in the gorilla theater aspect and just want to take pictures. Don't got me wrong, zombies love pictures...

It's funny to me that people in mass expect to be corralled. I'm afraid that unfortunately, many whom might not know how to be responsible for themselves and might want to sue some Fremonster for making them trip on the sidewalk and fall into a speeding vehicle. That's the reality of our culture.

There was simply too many people to bring into businesses and seriously clogg traffic. We already super bloodied up local storefront windows and trampled plantings.

Zombie Walk really only works with about 300 people who have taken the time to do their makeup and willingness to act like a zombies and photographers who risk themselves as VICTIMS! People willing to be hunted were missing from this years walk.

Next time it will be smaller, less publicized and I will personally turn a supersoaker full of my tastiest blood mixture on spectators. You're a victim or Zombie, or a photographer with real equipment.....
That's how I'd like it anyways.

The July 3rd walk was a world's record attempt. Of course you did not have to register! It was a free event with a $5.00 donation for the movie and space. If it had all the production qualities you were craving...it would have been a more expensive ticket. Fremont Outdoor Movies did not have the budget to really give a "concert type show". They were really stressed they might not make the $7,000 + they already sank into it. It was a community event that was what people make of it.

I'm glad you suffered the line. You would have not contributed to our zombie tally if you failed to do that. There's alot to think about concerning social dynamics and public law when considering bringing a horrible fantasy into reality. If you really want to get involved...read the other sections of this journal I've kept since our first ZW in 2003.
