Oct 26th 4:00pm
4th Annual Seattle Zombie Walk
West Seattle

Yea yeah, we liked it in Fremont……but Zombie Walk has become a parade. Let's get the "invading small town America" scenario going. Where else has that feel than California Ave in West Seattle? Join us for chasing down some fresh meat for our rotting bodies…..

Here is the rough plan……

3:45 We gather at the back of the Rite Aid parking lot. The parking lot there is huge and there is lots of free residential parking all around that area.
Rite Aid
5217 California Ave SW West Seattle WA 98136
(just south of the Alaska junction)

(We recommend that you take the bus because we’ll be walking far from the car area anyways) Plus, the 55, 54, 21 and 22 buses go straight to the California Alaska junction. The 54 will drop zombies off directly at the Rite Aid on California.

4:00 The horde is assembled and moves along California towards Alaska. We detour to Jefferson square which would be great place to shop for "braaiiins" at the Safeway and maybe the hazmat suit guys want to come out again and attempt to keep the crowd “safe”. Then we shamble along to around the Junction of California and Alaska for more zombie hahem. Where is that zombie marching band? Anyone habe drums? Tuba? Then we trek up California to the Admiral Junction which is about a mile away. We pass a church where some ministers will surely be doing some zombie apocalypse preaching at us. (Ahem, Ministers?) We keep plodding along California and eventually end up at Admiral Way

6:30ish We arrive at the Admiral Junction. Once there, there's nearby dinner choices.... There's pizza (cheap option), Angelina's for Italian, and an Indian restaurant for dinner.

7:30ish 21+ zombie time.
Cocktails at 7:30pm to 8:30pm at Mission (2325 California Ave 98116)

8:30 Karaoke at Yen Wor from 8:30 until you’re zombied out.
(2300 California Ave 98116)

After that, the buses that go downtown are 56, 57 and 55. 55 will also get you back to your car by Rite Aid every 1/2 hr.

I am so excited!! I was in Florida this weekend & thought that I missed the walk this year. But now I can go, YAY!!! What if we started in the Admiral junction and walked all the way to the ferry and took the ferry to Vashon? Now that would be invading small town america, and super fun!

I've never attended one of these things, but I think it's a fantastic idea. I'd like to bring my 10 year old daughter along and I'm a little concerned about the type of crowd. Is this something that's "kid friendly?" She's got the same quirky personality that I do. It fits perfectly into our weekend... we're going to the play "Night of the Living Dead" at the Seattle Children's Theater on the 25th (I think there are still tickets available).

Yes, Zombie Walk is kid friendly. Zombie kids are awesome! You'll just need to protect her a little from the particularly clumsy zombies! :)

It's been my stomping ground since I work at the bowling alley! If the zombies end up by the Admiral pub, then right next door is the karaoke place! ZOMBIE KARAOKE!!!! Eh? Eh? I was thinking zombie bowling might be fun but that may be a bit too far....

For someone who does not know these streets, or anything about west seattle, how NOT BY BUS, would I get there?

I also agree, that invading the Ferry and crossing to the Island or even to Bremerton would be fun. now THAT would be an invasion. :-)

If you are coming from downtown...
take I-5 south.
exit onto west seattle bridge
Take Fauntleroy exit on bridge
Take a R at Alaska,
L at California
Rite Aid is at California and Dawson.

if you are coming from South of Seattle, take I-5 North to West Seattle bridge exit.

The Rite Aid is not in Jefferson Square.. that is Bartells. To get to Rite Aid,
Go south of the junction on California to Dawson. It is on the corner there.

For zombies who can't carry a tune (perhaps because they're busy carrying a rotten appendage) a post-walk karaoke alternative for your consideration is to join ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK, live and in the flesh for a 20th anniversary screening of her debut film, followed by the Black Cat Ball at the Pan Pacific Hotel with drinks, food and dancing. ZOMBIES WELCOME!

It all gets started at 6:30pm at the King Cat Theatre.

http://seattlelgff.bside.com/2008/films/elviramistressofthedark_seattlelgff2008

Bus route from Admiral area:
Depart California Ave SW & SW College St At 05:41 PM
On Route MT 55 Downtown via Alaska Junction
Arrive Bell St & 7th Ave At 06:12 PM
Walk 0.2 mile SE to 2130 6TH AVE

That sounds great but it's $30.00? I was going to help promo your King Kat Theater post but it's spendy. I promote community free events mostly.

Well, $30 is a pretty good value for a movie at the newly restored King Cat Theatre, a post-party with food, drinks, DJs/dancing, and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to have an audience with Elvira!

We do have a free event in the festival that might be of interest to zombies: "Monsters in the Closet" at the Central Library on Sunday Oct 19. And we're showing some great horror movies, both new and classic. More on all that here:

While I think that your zombie walk was quite the innovative, creative, and well organized production, as a parent of a 3 year old, I must question your judgement in bringing hundreds of very realistic zombies into an event that is organized particularly for children. As parents, we go to great lengths to protect our children from some of the graphic things they see on television, but the Saturday of your walk, I must say, we were caught off guard. We could not protect my 3 year old son from that carnage. As my son stood there watching hundreds of scary people walking past with sores on their faces, slit throats, and axes in their backs, I could do nothing to protect him, because you forced us into seeing this. I don't have a problem with the zombie walk==but at an event for children? I mean no disrespect, but that was completely irresponsible, disrespectful, and arrogant. I hope you guys had fun as hundreds of parents stood in horror at what their preschoolers were seeing, able to do nothing to stop it--no channel to turn there.
Please have a little more respect next year, and stay away from the West Seattle Fall Festival.

Zombies and kids

I don't know where the West Seattle Fall Festival was last Saturday. Zombie walk was two Sundays ago. I don't remember passing lots of preschoolers. We try to avoid masses of young children who tend to be puzzled by us. There were lots of children in our event but mostly over 8 yrs old. Fact is, some children love to be frightened around Halloween time. I did for sure. Some cry like babies, especially ones with overprotective parents. :) I know you want to protect your children, maybe that was the first time you realized that you can't. Not all the time. And from what? The threat was only in your mind. We do not actually attack anyone. So our sick sense of humor is too much for you? OK then. It's good you posted.

I sincerely do not feel I've been pschologically scarring children by frightening them on Zombie Walks. A three year old can not even concieve of what a zombie is.

The Halloween season has become so Hallmark nice nice that it's not very scary or edgy anymore. The whole point of Halloween is to confront death and monsters and things that go bump in the night. Right? We are all just kids in costume playing make-believe. I don't care that you do not like our game.

(I bet your son will ask "Where are the zombies?" for next year)
